Who is eligible to use this pass?

The JR East Pass is available exclusively to international visitors travelling on a non-Japanese passport. You must present your passport when redeeming the pass.

Can I use this pass on the Tokaido Shinkansen to reach Kyoto or Osaka?

No. The pass is not valid on the Tokaido Shinkansen. It covers JR East Shinkansen routes only, which serve destinations to the north and east of Tokyo such as Sendai, Niigata, and Akita.

Do children need their own pass?

Children under 6 travel free but are not entitled to a seat. If a reserved seat is required for a child under 6, a separate child ticket must be purchased. Children aged 6 and over require their own pass.

How do I book a reserved seat with the pass?

After redeeming your pass, use the designated JR East reserved-seat ticket machines at major stations to make seat reservations on eligible express trains at no additional cost.

Does the 5-day or 10-day pass have to be used on consecutive days?

Yes — once activated, the pass is valid for the number of consecutive calendar days you selected. Choose your start date carefully to make the most of your coverage window.

Where can I redeem the pass?
