Frequently asked questions
Do I need a visa to cross from Malaysia into Thailand on this ferry?
Many nationalities receive a visa-on-arrival or visa exemption for both Thailand and Malaysia, but requirements vary. If your passport requires a pre-arranged visa for either country, you must obtain it before travel. Check the latest entry requirements for your nationality with the relevant embassy.
Where exactly does the ferry dock on Koh Lipe?
On Koh Lipe, the ferry arrives at and departs from Pattaya Beach, which also serves as the immigration clearance point for Thailand.
What is the National Park fee and do I need to pay it in advance?
A fee of 200 Thai baht per person is charged by the Koh Lipe National Park authority. It is paid directly on arrival at Koh Lipe — not online in advance. Make sure you have Thai baht with you before leaving Langkawi, as there may be limited exchange facilities at the pier.
Are children charged the same fare?
Children under 3 years of age travel free of charge, though no seat will be reserved for them. Children aged 3 and above require a paid ticket.
What is the difference between low season, shoulder season, and peak season tickets?
The ferry operates on a seasonal schedule from late October to late May. Pricing and departure times vary across low, shoulder, and peak periods. Peak season departures from Koh Lipe are split into morning and afternoon sailings. Select the option that matches your travel date at booking.
How early should I arrive at the terminal?
Arrive at least 1 hour before your scheduled departure. Both terminals handle passport immigration, so queues can form — especially during peak season.
