Frequently asked questions
Do I need kayaking experience to join?
No prior kayaking experience is required. Your guide will cover the basics before you set off. You do need to be a confident swimmer capable of swimming 25 metres unassisted (for participants aged 16 and above).
What happens if the weather is bad on the day?
Ocean conditions can affect whether the tour runs safely. Contact Cape Byron Kayaks directly if you have concerns about the forecast — they will advise on any changes or rescheduling.
Can children join the tour?
Children aged 5 and over are welcome. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and each paying adult may accompany only one child. Children should be comfortable in a marine environment.
Are dolphins and turtles guaranteed?
Wildlife sightings are very common in these waters but cannot be guaranteed — animals are wild and free-roaming. Dolphins and turtles are seen on most tours; whale sightings depend on the migration season.
Do I need to print my ticket?
No. A mobile ticket is accepted — simply show your booking confirmation on your phone when you arrive at the meeting point.
I have a back or shoulder condition. Can I still participate?
Guests with back, neck, shoulder, hip or heart conditions, as well as those who are pregnant, participate at their own risk. Speak to your doctor before booking if you have any concerns, and inform the guide on the day.
