The Christchurch Tram is a unique, elegant and environmentally friendly way to see the city. The Tram circuit encompasses the city sights including Cathedral Square, Avon River, Art Gallery Centre, Arts Centre, Canterbury Museum and The Botanic Gardens. Frequently asked questions
Do I need to print my ticket?
No. A mobile ticket on your phone screen is all you need. Show it to the driver when you board.
Where do I board the tram?
You can board at any of the 17 stops on the circuit. The address for the main stop is 109 Worcester Street, but there's no requirement to start there.
Are children really free?
Yes — children under 15 travel free of charge. Up to three children may travel free with each paying adult.
What are the tram's operating hours?
In summer (September–March) trams run 09:00–18:00. In winter (April–August) they run 10:00–17:00. Note that the last tram passes stops 3–8 one hour before closing time.
Is stop 16 (Victoria Square) currently open?
Stop 16 is temporarily closed from 8 May due to works in Victoria Square. Use stop 17 (New Regent Street) or stop 2 (Cathedral Square) as alternatives until it reopens.
What is the difference between the three ticket options?
The Day Pass covers the tram only. The Punting on the Avon and Tram Combo adds a traditional punt ride along the Avon River. The Gondola and Tram Combo includes a ride up to the Port Hills on the Christchurch Gondola. All options include unlimited tram travel for the day.
